hen I was a young girl we always had toy poodles at home and I always wanted a larger breed dog.
When I set up home myself I owned a few large breeds my first dog was a Doberman , then I had a Boxer and a few Mastiff breeds, my favourite being my beloved Bullmastiff who I did obedience with . When he passed away I knew I couldnt be without a dog in my life for long! My mind kept going back to a breed of dog that i was in awe of and had admired for many years .......The Rottweiler
I read up on the breed and went to many Rottweiler breed club shows , after leaving the LASER Championship Show my hubby was convinced and I was so impressed with the whole package I knew I definitely wanted a Rottweiler. I was interested in showing at this point , but sadly it was out of the question, I had very young children and worked most weekends. My husband and I met a local breeder who had many years experience with the breed and had a litter to view . His lines went back to very good lines " Hanbar " We had seen some Hanbar bred dogs at the Laser Show and were very impressed by them and my husband had spoken to Chris Window about the breed .
We knew we would have to educate our family and friends along with many other people as the Rottweiler had a very bad stigma attached to the breed as it still has today . I think temperaments today are alot better than back when we first had our dogs but again it depends on the owner and training and the breeding . There will always be prejudice against our breed, it is a very very sad and unfortunate fact . We strive to educate people . Prejudice is a sad fact and it consists mostly of plain ignorance and hearsay . People do need to learn what great companions Rottweilers can be and this is up to responsible people to show them. We always act as responsible , good owners and strive to place any puppies we breed in suitable , good , responsible , knowlwedgable homes that are prepared to train and socialise the dogs correctly.
Thankfully our family and friends opened their hearts to the breed and love them just as we do
My first Rottweiler was a very strong willed boy , A real handful who required lots of firm training and patience but he was a real stunner and a loyal companion to me for many years . He had bundles of energy , charisma , plenty of drive and great movement. He would have been quite a show stopper had he entered the ring !
In the years that followed I owned many more Rottweilers, all excellent companion pet dogs . As the children got older and independant and I finally changed my job it was time for me to do more with my dogs. I wasnt content to always attend Crufts as an onlooker and shopaholic - I wanted to participate and exhibit my dogs !
It was a good ten years of owning and loving the breed before I began my interest and hobby of showing and exhibiting . Through Rottweilers I had become good friends with a lady who lived in Thorrington and has lots of experience in the breed - Mrs Jacquie Mikhailades of Canazas Rottweilers . Although she has since moved to Florida USA we still remain friends . Jacquies breeding went back to very good lines " Upend" . I had a dog and a bitch from her lines and started training at her local centre in wheeley. Jacquie and I went to a few Companion Shows at first , I quite enjoyed them but it soon became obvious my dogs were not showing the same enthusiasm in training and didnt want to travel far. We agreed it was not for them , so i resigned myself to start again.
There have been so many ups and downs along the way , i suspect there will be many more! Not all dogs enjoy the travelling and exhibiting and thus dont make good show prospects And not many dogs will meet the correct high standard required for the showring so these dogs although great companion dogs do not represent the strict breed standard and there fore cant be shown. These dogs make wonderful companions however ! This process is heartbreaking but you have to carry on if you are dedicated.
The aim of all good breeders and exhibitors is to breed and show to the highest standard. Exhibing and breeding correct breed standard dogs - aiming to produce good quality , good temperament , strong , healthy , sound dogs with correct confirmation whilst keeping to the breed standard - and to breed for the improvement of the breed only.
Working toward the future I was privileged to breed my bitch with a Top Winning Show Dog with excellent bloodlines and many good qualities in the breed that I admired He complimented my bitches profile and had the reqirements she needed - Tina Gibsons " Diester Harry Potter JW " I kept a boy from this litter that I had my eye on from the day he was born . he turned out to be very special to me for many personal reasons but thats another story ! It was obvious he had lots of potential !! He has since achieved great success at Championship and Open Shows among his wins are CC challenge certificate X3 RCC - Rerserve Challenge Certificates - Best In Show - London And South East Rottweiler Club 2006/2007 many best in show and reserve best in show
and *****" BEST PUPPY IN BREED CRUFTS 2005 ******

The dogs and I really enjoy the showing and exhibiting. The travelling is very long and tiring , it is a very expensive hobby and some times it can be very disappointing and frustrating but it is a exciting , enjoyable hobby , it can be very social and a good learning experience if you let it Through my dogs and hobby of showing I have made many new friends and for that i am thankfull. I love the exhibiting and competing and i also enjoy watching my breed and other breeds of dog in the showring. *** There is much to learn watching and studying dogs in the showring , especially movement and confirmation ***** We show at Championship Shows and Open Shows to a very high standard with great success and I hope to continue to do so for as long as both my dogs and myself enjoy it .
Even after being involved with rottweilers for 14 years I have learnt so many new things and thankfully continue to do so ! I am very thankfull to my fellow exhibitors and owners who have offered me help and support .
All our dogs are family companions first and foremost, at the end of the day rosette or no rosette in my eyes they are ALL number one !!!
I take home the "best in show " every day of the week x
