A Rottweiler is not a breed for everyone.
They are a wonderful breed but you should think carefully before getting one as they require extra training and socialisation and this needs to be done at a very early age and throughout the dogs life..
The breed has a dedicated following of owners and loyal supporters but it also has a stigma attached to the breed and the Rottweiler has a bad reputation which is highly detrimental to the breed.
It is as with bad breeders and irresponsible , thoughtless owners who are a danger to this breeds future , it is not the dogs that are at fault it is human error .
For those of us who know and experience the true character of this beautiful breed it is very sad and heartbreaking and we must stop the prejudice by educating others on the benefits of this wonderful loyal loving breed .
And also trying to stop Irresponsible , bad owners from obtaining a Rottweiler and of course Bad breeders from breeding in the first place.
Rottweilers need all the help and support from dedicated responsible owners that they can get
What we do not want are irresponsible owners who dont care about the breed , those people who are out to exploit the breed it in any way or form and iresponsible careless owners.
A Rottweiler is not a macho image , a money making puppy machine neither are they dispensable animals they deserve kind permanent homes and be safe and secure.
Being a large breed they also require lots of time and money .
If you are thinking of owning a Rottweiler m,y advice is to read up on the breed and learn its background and characteristics.
Go out and meet Rottweiler owners, meet adult Rottweilers so you can see their size and characters. Join a good training clubs , preferbly one that has knowledge of Rottweilers and enlist in training EARLY.
You MUST be prepared to put in time and effort with your puppy , all pups are time consuming and hard work Rottweiler pups require that bit extra to get the full benefit from them especially the Males.

ABOUT THE ROTTWEILER

A Rottweiler is a large breed dog who is very strong and willful.
They come from the working group of dogs which means they can have a high working and guarding potential this needs to be respected and while we admire and recognise this in the breed it does mean they need a careful home to ensure this characteristic is used for the benefit of the breed and not exploited in the wrong hands.
They are a breed devoted to their owners , very loyal to their family and good with children when correctly socialised and raised within the family home .
Because they can be protective and independent they require early socialisation they also require adequate excercise and good food to keep them sound in body and mind.
They want and need to be part of the family and should be introduced to many situations , different sights, sounds and as many people of different types and ages from a young age and throughout their lives.
Rotts require a firm confident handler not one who is nervous shy or timid.
As with socialisation the rule applies to any pets and other animals in the family , everyone should get along , once introduced properly and taught to respect each other there are no problems.
As with ALL DOGS even small breeds they are pack animals and need to know where they stand in that family pack - The answer must always be " AT THE BOTTOM "
Rottweilers love to learn and follow instructions , they want to learn they want to please .
Because they are a highly intelligent breed you will find that they are very easy and quick to learn given time and patience.
Rottweilers do enjoy a walk and a romp in the garden and being involved as part of the family .
Whether out and about or in your own home it is your responsibilty as a rottweiler owner to promote understanding of the breed to the public at large.

The Rottweiler is a large breed and can be prone health problems which can be caused by many things including incorrect diet , exercise and inherited problems within the breed
A responsible owner is aware of these problems.
For me there are many dogs that I have loved and owned and many I admire .
There will always be a special place in my heart for a special breed ......... for their bold and beautiful looks , for their total love and devotion , determination and intelligence....... for the sheer pleasure I have of owning and sharing my life with my black and tans - The Rottweiler -
So loyal , strong and superior - Rottweilers deserve only the best , loving , permanent homes.
If you cannot provide the necessary requirements mentioned to be a responsible loving Rottweiler owner and if you are not dedicated to the breed for all the right reasons -
please do not consider owning a Rottweiler.
